Since February 2005, COERR and Enfants du Mekong have been surveying the poor children in Sakaew Province, focusing on the children of the landmine handicapped villagers who faced difficulty in working to earn for their family living due to their physically disabled as a result of their accidentally stepping on landmines that had been buried along the border areas by unknown troops during the unrest situation the past. Since then, the program started to support these poor children with scholarship that has reduced their parents’ burden on educational and daily expenditure.
At present, there are 141 sponsored students receiving monthly allowances in Sakaew and Surin Province.
On 19 July 2017, COERR and Enfants du Mekong officers visited students under the sponsorship program in Surin Province. Some sponsored students were supported by the program since Primary level and are now studying in high school or college. All of them are healthy and happy to receive us at their Primary Schools, where they were studying when they were in Primary level.
They are very pleased to have a chance to continue their education and to look for a good future after graduation.
